Jack Atkin-Smith was offered a job as our newest Mixed-Animal Veterinarian in September 2017 when he came to us for placement. He graduated Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Adelaide shortly afterwards and made the big move to Emerald. Jack is a keen learner in both small and large animals, taking every challenge in his stride like an old hand. He is a keen fisherman in his spare time and a highly valued member in our team.
Lauren Farmers is the newest member of our team, having joined us in January 2018 as a fully qualified Vet Technician. Inside the clinic, she prefers small animal surgery cases, medicine and especially shows an interest in ophthalmology (eyes). Lauren hales from South-East Queensland, where she graduated from Gatton UQ in 2014 and worked in Beaudesert for majority of her career. She is a fantastic drawer and we are proud to welcome her to Central Queensland.
Katelyn Read is the baby of our nursing team at Gray Street, but has the same role as our senior nurses after being with us for over three years! She enjoys her work in the field, but mostly the clinic hospital cases where she shows a keen interest in recovery, rehabilitation and wound management of our patients. Between her Western Performance horse shows on the weekends, she also participates in Target Shooting.
Dennice Winters is our wonderful Practice Manager at Gray Street Vets and keeps us and/or the show in order. She started with us in July 2015 as a receptionist, however almost three years and a big promotion later, she is the manager behind it all and doesn't mind stepping away from the business plans to help the nurses out. Dennice is a cat lover through and through and a huge asset to our team.
Tess McNamara joined our team in July, 2017 as a Veterinary Nurse for both large and small animals after working for three years previously in this profession at Chinchilla and Maranoa practices. Tess thoroughly enjoys large animal work - horses in particular - as well as small animal surgeries and has just finished her first season in Equine Reproduction at Central Queensland Breeding Centre. On the weekends she spends her time with her three competition horses on the campdraft circuit.
